  • “We connect residents to healthy food, gardening, and one another, by providing educational and family-friendly programs in our ¾ acre community garden.”

We are a non-profit community garden that is open to the public. We are different than other community garden models because we do not offer individual plots. Many community gardens have a significant waitlist of 1-4 years, and mandate strict rules on what your plot can or can not be. We have noticed that this model leaves the “community” garden organized, but fragmented in nature.

The Gilroy Demonstration Garden is a unique collaborative project. The garden offers up its bounties to those who are willing to grab a shovel with us. We rely on direct community involvement to decide on what the garden should be, and farm the entire space together.

We aim to connect residents to healthy food, gardening, and each other, by providing educational and family-friendly programs in our ¾ acre community garden.

The project began as an empty lot and a dream of providing fresh produce and gardening education to local residents. The garden became reality with a partnership between local citizens and the Leadership Gilroy Class of 2010. They began to work on plans for a green space and teaching garden, officially opened in June of 2010, and was approved as an independent non-profit group in 2012.

  • Volunteers are always welcome in the garden. One of our managers is there to lead a Garden Workday, every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. On Second Saturdays, and occasionally at other times, we add a class to the Workday. And we finish with a potluck lunch on Second Saturdays.

Volunteers are also welcome at the Farmers Market. We can use help running the market, talking to customers, tabling in our Garden booth.

Contact us if you are interested.
